Bathroom survey and measure template
A measure survey for a new bathroom or wet room. Record the room's length, width and height and the form works out the floor area, then the floor type. Add each wall with its length, features and their positions, and the existing suite. Record the soil stack, waste routes, hot water system and pressure, extraction and any materials that might contain asbestos, then the new layout wanted, style, accessibility needs and budget, and get the customer's signature. An optional Walk Cam films each wall and the services. Every question is listed below, and you can fill the live form in on this page.

What do you measure for a new bathroom?
Measure the room's length, width and ceiling height, each wall's length, and the position and size of the window, door, radiator, soil stack, boxing and electrics from a fixed corner. Note the floor construction, the soil stack and waste routes, the hot water system and water pressure, whether there is an extractor fan ducted outside, any materials that might contain asbestos, and what the customer wants in the new layout.
Last updated . Facts checked by the SiteSurvey team on 17 October 2026 against Approved Document F: ventilation, Approved Document P: electrical safety in dwellings and regulation 5 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 (identifying asbestos).

Every question in the bathroom survey template
A bathroom measure survey: room size and height, every wall with its features, window and door, existing suite, water, waste, soil stack and electrics, extraction, floor, the new layout wanted and the customer's signature. 4 sections and 45 questions. Follow-up questions and guidance appear only when an answer calls for them, so the person on site never sees the ones that do not apply.
Make it your own: every question is editable
This is a starting point, not a fixed form. Once it is in your SiteSurvey account you can reword any question, add or remove questions, sections and answer options, and add your own logo, so it fits the way your team works and the jobs you do.

Bathroom survey FAQs
Why check the soil stack and waste routes?
The WC and shower positions depend on where waste can run with enough fall. Moving them can mean pumps or raised floors, which changes the price.
What extraction does a bathroom need?
Approved Document F sets a minimum extract rate for a bathroom in England of 15 l/s for an intermittent fan, or 8 l/s high rate on a continuous system. The form warns if there is no fan ducted to outside.
Is bathroom electrical work notifiable?
Under Approved Document P, a new circuit, a new consumer unit, or an addition or alteration to a circuit in the special location around a bath or shower is notifiable. Like-for-like replacements, repairs and maintenance are not.
Does it work for wet rooms and accessible bathrooms?
Yes. Record the floor construction, falls and accessibility needs so the designer can plan a level-access shower.
Why ask about asbestos?
Under regulation 5 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, an employer must not start work that could disturb asbestos without first finding out whether it is present, or presuming it is. Textured coatings, old floor tiles and boxing can contain it in older buildings.
Who uses this?
Bathroom designers and fitters, plumbers, builders and adaptation teams.
