How long does it take to capture an AR floorplan on site?

A standard rectangular room of 20 to 50 square metres typically takes 2 to 5 minutes to capture using SiteSurvey AR floorplan capture. A full floor containing 10 to 15 rooms, including corridors and ancillary spaces, can usually be completed in under an hour by an operative working at a normal pace.

Capture time depends on room complexity, the number of features being recorded (doors, windows, columns, alcoves), and whether the surveyor is also adding asset or equipment markers at the same time. Rooms with multiple recesses, irregularly shaped walls, or extensive glazing take a little longer to walk and capture accurately.

Compared to traditional tape-and-sketch surveys, AR capture is substantially faster on a per-room basis. There is no need to measure each wall individually, record dimensions on paper, or redraw the sketch later in a CAD or drawing package. The plan is generated in real time and is available for review before the surveyor leaves the room.

For large commercial properties, AR capture enables a single surveyor to cover significantly more floor area in a day than would be possible with traditional methods. This reduces the number of site visits needed and the associated travel and labour costs, which is a material benefit for organisations carrying out programmes of cyclical surveys across multiple locations.
