Moving inventory template

A pre-move survey and inventory for a house removal. Record the new address, moving date and access at both ends, including stairs, lifts, narrow doors and parking suspensions. Add each room as a space with its contents, large and fragile items, dismantling and estimated volume, and the form totals the volume. Record packing, storage, insurance value and anything not moved, and get the customer's signature. Every question is listed below, and you can fill the live form in on this page.

What goes on a moving inventory?

A moving inventory lists each room's contents, with large, fragile and high-value items noted, anything to dismantle, and an estimated volume to size the vehicle and crew. A removals survey adds the access at both addresses, packing and storage needs, the value of goods to insure, anything the remover will not move and the customer's agreement.

Last updated . Facts checked by the SiteSurvey team on 17 October 2026 against regulation 4 of the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 and HSE: manual handling at work.

Every question in the moving inventory template

A home removals survey and moving inventory: both addresses and access, each room's contents as a space with large and fragile items, volume, packing, dismantling, storage, insurance value and the customer's signature. 3 sections and 38 questions. Follow-up questions and guidance appear only when an answer calls for them, so the person on site never sees the ones that do not apply.

Make it your own: every question is editable

This is a starting point, not a fixed form. Once it is in your SiteSurvey account you can reword any question, add or remove questions, sections and answer options, and add your own logo, so it fits the way your team works and the jobs you do.

Details you only enter once

Add this form to a project in SiteSurvey and it fills in what the project already knows, so nobody on site retypes it and every form on the job uses the same names. Anything filled in can still be changed.

Moving inventory FAQs

Does the form work out the volume?

Yes. Enter an estimated volume for each room in cubic feet and the form adds them up for the move.

Why record access?

Stairs, lifts, narrow doors, long carries and parking all change the crew and time needed. The form records them at both addresses, including whether a parking suspension is needed.

Can I survey by video?

Yes. The optional Walk Cam guides you to film each room, the cupboards, the loft and the route to the street.

What is not moved?

Record exclusions such as paint and chemicals, plants, and valuables and documents the customer keeps with them.

What about heavy items?

Note them as large items so the crew plans for them. The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 require employers to avoid hazardous manual handling so far as reasonably practicable, and to assess and reduce the risk of any that cannot be avoided.

Who uses this?

Removal companies, man and van firms, storage companies and relocation agents.
