Noise diary template
A diary for noise or anti-social behaviour complaints. Record who keeps the diary and where the problem comes from, then each incident: date, start and end time, type, what happened, how it affected you, witnesses, photos or recordings, and whether it was reported at the time with the reference. Record the end date and any days you were away, then sign the diary as a true record for your landlord or council. Every question is listed below, and you can fill the live form in on this page.

What should a noise diary record?
A noise diary should record each incident's date, start and end time, what the noise or behaviour was, where it came from, how it affected you (for example, you could not sleep), any witnesses, and any recordings or reports made at the time. Under section 79 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, a council must take reasonably practicable steps to investigate a complaint of a statutory nuisance, which includes noise from premises that is prejudicial to health or a nuisance.

Every question in the noise diary template
A noise and anti-social behaviour diary: each incident with date, start and end time, what happened, where it came from, the effect, witnesses and recordings, for evidence to a landlord or council. 3 sections and 24 questions. Follow-up questions and guidance appear only when an answer calls for them, so the person on site never sees the ones that do not apply.
Make it your own: every question is editable
This is a starting point, not a fixed form. Once it is in your SiteSurvey account you can reword any question, add or remove questions, sections and answer options, and add your own logo, so it fits the way your team works and the jobs you do.
Details you only enter once

Noise diary FAQs
How long should I keep the diary?
Councils set their own period. Bexley Council, for example, asks for at least one week and says two or three weeks would be better, with a note of any days you are away.
What happens after I send it?
GOV.UK says that if a council agrees a statutory nuisance is happening, has happened or will happen, it must serve an abatement notice, usually on the person responsible.
Can I add recordings?
Yes. Add photos, videos or sound recordings to each incident, which helps officers judge the noise.
Why sign it?
Signing confirms the diary is a true record, so do not exaggerate. Bexley Council warns you may need to swear in court that it is accurate.
Can housing officers use it with tenants?
Yes. Send it as a share link, so a tenant can fill it in on their phone and submit it. If anyone is in danger, they should call 999.
Who uses this?
Tenants, residents, housing officers, ASB teams and environmental health officers.
